Freedom?

Written By: R.H. Hope - Apr• 09•12
Dear Katherine,

I witnessed the most remarkable thing today:
A wild mare running across the prairie.
Bucking just for show, her mane flying in the wind.
I thought, this is what it means to be free.

As she drew closer I saw the length of barbed wire
on her foot, slicing into her pastern.
Pain with every step. Bleeding. Festering. Raw.
Removing this wire was my only concern.

But the beautiful sorrel bolted when I drew near.
Pure fear in her eyes, she could not trust me.
Sadly I watched her race out of sight, forever.
And I realized, she’s not really free.

With Love,

Your hair swirls around like dreams that I'm in Lava (RH Hope)
went up in smoke a long time ago,
lifelines of red worth hanging onto,
their suitors driven crazy thinking of you.

You close your eyes and smile,
oblivious to the longing that won’t end,
painful cycles of hello and goodbye,
the ache of a heart disconnected from you.

If you could just imagine for a moment
how you look like flaming red lava
flowing into paradise and leaving the
tourists with their hearts forever on fire…

Tourists who drop everything to melt
into your arms for the rest of eternity,
because there’s nowhere they’d rather be.
I am that tourist; you are my eternal flame.

Leap of Faith

Written By: R.H. Hope - Apr• 05•12
Legs dangling over the abyss,
she’s feeling cavalier.
Hair floating on  the summer breeze:
like her, completely free.

An unknown drop into darkness,
she’s swallowing her fear.
She won’t even know what she’s missed
till she jumps into bliss.

Maestro

 Maestro Poem, RH Hope
You’re the maestro stealing the show,
Got me wound up tighter than a violin scroll.
Always playing me with a virtuoso’s touch,
Always blaming me cause I hurt you oh so much.

Every night, every fight was your cadenza,
Forever playing it loud to a sold-out crowd,
Until the spotlight dimmed and I shut you out,
And let everyone know what you were all about.

I Am Not Them

Written By: R.H. Hope - Apr• 01•12
I am not them:
I’m not going to put you on a string and
drag you around like a child’s pull toy.

I am not them:
I’m not going to lock your heart in an old
trunk and steal the best years of your life.

I am not them:
I’m not going to spread the lies so thick that
you start doubting your own sanity.

I am not them:
I’m not going to blindfold you so I can
create a secret life on the side.

I am not them:
I’m not going to slice and dice you, leaving
nothing left for you to call your own.

I am not them:
I will never be anything like them,
and our life begins once you see this.
