Unrepentant… or Unaware?

Written By: R.H. Hope - May• 24•12
We took a trip down the Red River the
year it flooded its banks and
spilled down the hillsides,
flattening out into the valleys and
swallowing everything in it’s path
like a hungry, unstoppable beast.
I can still see the wild water rushing down
the streets like a warning of what was to come,
a liquid snake that took on a life of it’s own
even as it destroyed yours in a flash of rage.

Soon

When it gets quiet tonight, listen.
        That’s me, whispering the
words I can’t say out loud…

Not in the bright of day,
                  Not to your face,
                                    Not yet.

                                Some day I will,
            Some day you’ll hear them,
Some day you’ll finally understand.

Patience

I’ve seen the little girl inside you,
I’ve seen the old woman you’ll become,
But what I haven’t seen is the story of us.
Your eyes disguise your feelings,
Your enigmatic smile reveals nothing,
Your words dance around the truth.
And so I wait.

You Remind Me…

The bold and magnificent red
reminds me of blooming roses,
romantic dinners with Parisian wine,
melting with you into silk sheets,
passion so hot the windows steam.

The bold and magnificent red
reminds me of shared sunrises,
running my fingers through your hair,
the taste of strawberries on your lips,
feeling the heat rising between us.

The bold and magnificent red
reminds me of a broken heart,
time lost that we can never get back,
mistakes made that we can’t undo,
lifetimes wasting away without you.

Scattered

You smiled and I dropped my marbles,
little bits of my life scattered on the floor.
You were amused; I felt flustered as I
crawled around trying to put it back together.
Then the hair stood up on the back of my head:
Goosebumps, heart pounding, hands shaking
when I realized I made these marbles just for you.
