Simon

His life spilled out in the snow–
her legs give out; she stumbles.
Cold hands caressing fur,
suddenly she’s humbled.
Red bones are splintered bare–
still he crawled ten more feet…
Till the blast rang out once more
and his heart began to bleed.
.
Her misery warms her cheek,
as she lays him in the sled.
She shuffles through the snow,
her load is spilling red.
Dragging guilt behind her,
tracks etched by sorrow’s hand.
Still her heart beats in her chest,
and it’s more than she can stand.

Sizzling Wet

Written By: R.H. Hope - Jan• 12•13
You hear a soft voice
smooth and creamy
like melted chocolate
wrapping around you
sweet, silky streams
floating over your skin
sliding over you in the dark
tempting you to give in…
.
You feel a soft touch —
are you dreaming?
A wet trail leaves sparks
waves roll over you
sweet, silky streams
warming like sloe gin
sliding deeper into you
stoking the fire within…

December 10th

Written By: R.H. Hope - Dec• 10•12
The clock ticked slowly,
the only sound that night
as people held their breath,
wondering and waiting,
pacing in hallways,
listening for the news,
begging you to arrive —
but you were stubborn
and steadfastly refused.

And then you were here:
sparking her smiles,
dancing in her eyes,
lighting up the room,
blazing across her life
like a shooting star…
and thirty one years on
she may be further away,
but her love is never far.

Believe

Written By: R.H. Hope - Nov• 20•12
she gave up
said it couldn’t be done
that love was ephemeral
it was, it was
that’s what she believed
those roses
those chocolates
so quick to deceive
and now she knows
when it’s dark
why people said
“believe, believe”

The Unicorn Horn

Written By: R.H. Hope - Sep• 14•12

I remember your sly smile
when you gave me the gift:
you said it was a unicorn horn,
you said you found it,
you said it was magical
and I fell in love with you.
It felt like lightning in my hands
as the magic ran through me too.

I put it on the mantle
as a reminder of our love:
you said the horn brought us luck,
you said we were forever,
you said we’d stay together,
and I was so in awe of you.
Until the day the horn melted
and the icicle spoke its truth.
